It is crucial to the therapeutic process that you have a good working relationship with your therapist and this is why I have included some information about me to help you decide if we have the potential to work together.
Professional and personal life
Born in South Africa, I grew up on the east coast (Durban) and moved to Johannesburg to pursue my studies. In 2005, I completed my internship at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and at various primary mental health clinics on the outskirts of Johannesburg. During this time, I gained valuable experience in working in different communities and I developed am appreciation for the richness of cultural differences.
I have been fortunate to have various different experiences in my 14-year career as a Counselling Psychologist. I lectured psychology, in particular Cognitive Behavioural Psychology and Abnormal Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand. During this time, I began a small private practice that focused on psychiatric disorders and everyday coping. I then worked for an Employee Assistance Programme at various banking facilities, while concurrently running a private practice.
In 2011, I followed my passion for one-on-one therapy and went into private practice full-time. My practice focused on severe psychopathology in affiliation with the local psychiatric hospital. Here I used a combination of different modes of therapy to assist patients in overcoming their acute struggles and then later assist them in every day functioning. As such I have worked with a multitude of different struggles and varying levels of functionality.
In 2016, I relocated to Germany, after meeting my husband and have been living here since. The experience of moving to a new country and building our blended family has taken much patience and adjustment. Since relocating, I have been a student at Language School and work part-time at the Caritas Heilpädagogische Tagesstätte in Eltersdorf.
